Nvidia Chief Executive Voices Frustration Regarding Reported China AI Chip Purchase Restriction

Tech Firm Executive Company Leader

The head of the leading chipmaker has stated that he is "let down" by reports indicating that Chinese authorities has instructed its top tech firms to stop purchasing the firm’s artificial intelligence processors.

The executive noted that he plans to remain "patient" in reacting to this decision by the Chinese internet regulator.

"There are a lot of places we can't go to, and that's fine," he told reporters on midweek.

Nvidia, which previously faced a restriction on exporting its most advanced processors to China, had witnessed that ban reversed this summer.

Under a recent agreement, Nvidia must pay fifteen percent of its Chinese income to the American authorities.

That same day, news emerged that the Chinese internet regulator had reportedly instructed tech companies to discontinue use of the company’s processors designed specifically for the local market.

Stock of the American firm dropped by more than 1% in premarket trading.

The CEO stated that he would "support the US" as they attempt to resolve international challenges, and would express the same message if questioned during meetings later.

The firm recently became the first business globally to reach a four trillion dollar market cap.

Its chips are central to the worldwide AI boom, running data centres across the world.

The Chinese government, on the other hand, strives to compete with US dominance in artificial intelligence and has been creating its own semiconductors as within its wider tech strategy.

Leading China-based companies such as Alibaba had before purchased the company’s chips prior to the new import ban.

The chipmaker was among several American tech companies that announced investments in the United Kingdom as part of a bilateral technology agreement.

The commitment includes providing chips for the a major data centre scheduled to open in north-east England, in partnership with Arm.
