The Summer I Turned Pretty, one of the hottest TV shows of the season, has concluded dramatically after weeks of speculation about how its love triangle storyline would conclude.
The show's last season centres on the protagonist and her choice between ex-fiancé Jeremiah and his the other brother, Conrad.
A large number of viewers were on Team Conrad, with feelings running so high that the show's team and showrunner the writer recently urged fans to stop sending hate to the actors online.
The concluding chapter premiered on this week, and opened with Conrad startling Belly by turning up in France on the night before her birthday celebration.
After a day with a few twists and turns in her temporary residence, she gets back together with her former flame and he professes his feelings for her—but she admits she doesn't know if his emotions are real.
He leaves, but she sprints through Paris to stop him—soundtracked by Taylor Swift's Out of the Woods—and declares her feelings on his departing transport and makes her pick.
"If there are infinite worlds, every version of me chooses you in all cases," she declares.
"She chooses him!!" posted one fan on a popular platform with a background music of Abba's The Winner Takes It All.
"I'm thrilled," wrote another with four crying emojis. "FINALLY FINALLY," said another.
At the same time, back in Cousins, Massachusetts, Jeremiah pairs off with a new love interest and mends fences with his parent.
"A joyful ending for all? That's the outcome!"
Devotee one supporter, young, held a finale watch party in her city. She explained to a radio program that she started watching the series in lockdown—and is now hooked.
"It was - and is - a sense of comfort, especially with what's been occurring lately. It's a safe space!" she said.
She put together the gathering to support a good cause—and to meet new people.
"This was a great opportunity to collect donations and to create an event people would want to meet at. This series is something I really enjoyed—and I know countless fans are invested.
"A pal recommended the series—I'm a comparable in age, so it's also a personal link. The final season revolves around her personal growth, so in that sense I can understand her... but I've avoided two brothers vying for my attention!"
The streaming service has reported that the final season debut attracted a huge number of viewers in its first week, hit number one on the platform in numerous nations, and is its most-watched season among young adult women.
Han, who created the story and helpen pen the conclusion, told media that she had appreciated people unite to watch the show "as if it were a major event".
She has, nonetheless, advised fans against online attacks on social media.
"Sometimes viewers don't realize that you're referencing a role, but you're saying things about the person that plays the character when you're mentioning looks or behavior," she said.
"These are actual individuals, and just because they're famous doesn't mean that it's not difficult to experience those things."
Han also put a message in the final moments of the conclusion thanking viewers and suggesting new content.
"Sincere thanks for the support you've given this story all these years," she wrote.
"For long-time fans since the beginning or discovered it through TV I'm so thankful you've made Belly's story part of your summers.
"We put our hearts into this and we're so thankful to you for joining the journey. Maybe we'll meet again one summer in Cousins.
"With affection and gratitude, the author."
Viewers would lap up a follow-up, with feedback noting: "Although the conclusion wrapped up nicely, fans clearly desire the couple's future—and future developments not just for them, but for secondary characters as well."
